Increasingly the role of aberrant terminal hairs is being recognised in folliculitis.

Hair removal (diode 800nm laser or Nd: YAG 1064nm in darker phototypes) can give excellent and long lasting remissions where recurrent folliculitis occurs in hair bearing skin.

Pseudofolliculitis barbae also responds well and hair removal has a role in pilonidal sinus management.
